CRAVE IT. COVET. LOVE IT. This Week: Love Local Thailand Flood Relief Efforts
November 5, 2011 in All Posts, CRAVE IT. COVET. LOVE IT.
This week I’m loving all the local Thailand flood relief efforts like the Thailand Flood Relief Fund launched by San Francisco’s Give2Asia and the fundraisers by the Thai Association of Northern California and Berkeley’s Wat Mongkolrattanaram to assist Thailand’s recovery efforts from the worst flood in half a century.
In case you’ve been buried under piles of laundry, here are links to some of the most amazing photos from In Focus with Alan Taylor (The Atlantic) detailing the recent monsoon season’s deluge, which has submerged many neighborhoods in Bangkok and adjacent provinces:

If straight monetary donations aren’t your thing, the easiest thing to do: head to Wat Mongkolrattanaram this Sunday to fill your belly with delicious Thai curries, noodles, barbecue and desserts from 9:00-1:00 p.m. at 1911 Russell Street in Berkeley. Proceeds from the Wat’s weekly brunch will go towards relief efforts.
Although the flooding is just in Bangkok, it affects the whole country. My brother in Phuket went out yesterday to buy my Dad’s favorite cake for his birthday and couldn’t find it. Turns out it’s made in Bangkok. They have extended family and their friends staying with them because their homes are 4 - 5 feet underwater. At least they had a place to stay. Hearts go out to the many who don’t have another place to go.
I’m glad your family is okay
I know people who have had to relocate as well. Wish they had paid better attention and opened the dams sooner.
Ugh- When stuff like this happens, and in sequence like it’s been happening, it’s tough to watch- It is nice that there are things we can do from our side of the world. Thanks-
I know - seems like Mother Nature has been trying to send us some kind of message lately, doesn’t it? We better be on our good behavior
