Sugar Sugar Recipe Book Giveaway
November 16, 2011 in All Posts, Bake, Giveaways, Sponsored Posts
When the recipe book Sugar, Sugar: Every Recipe Has a Story arrived at my doorstep, I couldn’t wait to crack it open and try one of the delicious recipes! But what I really wanted to see was what authors Kimberly Reiner and Jenna Sanz-Agero (the “Sugar Mommas”) meant by “every recipe has a story.”
As I flipped through the pages, I saw that each wonderfully sugary cake, cookie, crisp, cobbler, bar, tart and pie recipe was accompanied by an equally sweet story about the tradition of the recipe and the background of the families and friends who baked them and the lucky recipients of the warm, thoughtful treats.
There are also great tips and notes alongside the recipes and a nostalgic “ingredient” to convey the personality or story behind the recipe. (One of my favorites is “Deer repellant,” but there are also cute ones like “Fireworks”).
I didn’t know which chapter to start with, but of course, ended up diving headfirst into Chapter 4: Better Than Nooky Cookies. I really wanted to make the Boobie Cookies, but didn’t have the right ingredients, so made these easy, delicious Princess Cutout Cookies instead:
If you’re wondering why they aren’t frosted with the Princess Cutout Cookie Frosting … well … we gobbled most of them up before Jane could frost them!
When Hubby came home, he requested Gran’s Tea Cakes, which made the whole house smell like warm, spicy nutmeg and instantly got us into the holiday spirit. We quickly discovered that they go really well with a hot cup of Irish Breakfast tea!
The Sugar Mommas have been gracious enough to provide me with an extra copy of their book to give away so that you can enjoy their delicious recipes, too! Not a baker? ‘Tis it not the season to be giving?
And if Tea Cakes and Princess Cutout Cookies don’t appeal to your tastebuds, I tempt you with the prospect of enjoying these luscious Oatmeal Carmelitas:
and a Chocolate Hydrogen Bomb!

The information you provide will only be used by The Outlaw Mom (TM) Blog to administer the Sugar Sugar Giveaway. I received a free copy of the Sugar, Sugar: Every Recipe Has a Story from Andrews McMeel Publishing, LLC to review under no obligation. The recipes turned out beautifully, so I decided to give this unbiased review and participate in a sponsored giveaway.
P.S. Well, to be totally honest, actually, this review is a little bit biased because how could I not think that two lawyers turned bakers/authors rock?! How envious am I?
P.P.S. - Don’t worry, you’ll get a new copy, not my buttery, crumb-y one!
Happy Baking!
Though it’s not really baking….I love Mac and cheese with tons of gruyere…also savory bread pudding with leeks, cream, butter and cheese!
Dude, that’s baking. Good baking

makes you look like a culinary goddess.
Every holiday season, I love to bake my delcious pumpkin cream cheese rolls! I make extra to give to family and friends as gifts.
That sounds so good! I want the recipe
How lucky that my first visit to you brings me to a giveaway post! I love baking cookies, brownies, pies, and cakes
LOVE both these sugar cookies….mmmmmmmmmm.
That is good luck! I have to say again that your blog name rocks
I love that this book has stories with each recipe. My mom gave me a recipe book with special recipes from different family members and friends - my favorite is my grandmother’s handwriting on the back of a used envelope with some cooking stains. It might sound ridiculous but it makes me feel so close to her when I bake those cookies.
What a great way to pass on recipes. I wish I had something like that. My mom won’t write anything down and if I chase her around the kitchen with my own notepad, she chases me out
You’re lucky!
Great looking book and I would love to bake and cook from it. For me it totally depends on my mood as to what I want to bake, I love it all.
Me, too! I like to try things I’ve never done before especially. Thanks for coming by, Lisa!
Sweet, sweet, sweet! I love sweets. I only eat dinner so I can hurry up and get to dessert
So funny! I know a certain someone in my own house like that
On my own, I love to bake breads, sweet & savory. It is so much fun to do group baking around the holidays. I used to have a cookie baking party when my children were young and they would invite all their friends to help with an all day cutout cookie baking marathon. It would not surprise me if I were to still find colored sugar sprinkles dusting the recesses of the floor moldings in the dining room where the operations took place. It was a great time.
Oh, that sounds so nice. I think that’s why I like baking so much now. I clearly remember my mom making us homemade birthday cakes and baking around the holidays. I love that tradition
Thanks for sharing yours!
I love to make a blueberry lemon yogurt cake. I plan on gifting them this holiday season to
friends and family.
Oooh, I’d love to try that. Sounds healthy, which I need to start baking more often!
I love baking doesn’t matter what it is, if it gets my kids in the kitchen to bake with me then that’s what we bake!
My youngest (18 months) now goes into the pantry saying, “Flour, flour!” so I totally hear you on that! Thanks for stopping by
Sign me up too! I like anything that involves chocolate and baking! Can’t believe I didn’t see this sooner. toddlerapproved dot blogspot dot com
My favorite thing to bake is peanut butter bars, I also love mini chocolate cakes with peppermint frosting. They are my favorites in December!
Peppermint frosting?! That sounds so good. I’m going to try peppermint bark for the first time this year. Making it, that is - not eating it. Done that tons of times
Sign me up! I would love a chance to win this cookbook. Just in time for some holiday cookie making! A favorite cookie in our house is a chocolate chip cookie made with two sticks of butter!! Yum, yum.
Oh my goodness, two sticks of butter! That sounds soooo good! I’m coming over
Oh, I’m so entering.
I like to bake SWEET things.
