{Live} A Tooth-Friendly Easter Egg Hunt

March 29, 2012 in All Posts, Parenting, Sponsored Posts

It’s not Easter yet, but we are going on “practice” hunts in anticipation of the big day. Kind of like Easter Egg Hunt rehearsal. It worked well for us last year when Jane was 2 and Sam was under a year and they didn’t really understand what they were doing. Although, they definitely understood the Egg Cracking we did!

For this year’s “rehearsal,” we did a tooth-friendly hunt. Jane just had her first dentist experience and it was awful. I mean screaming, crying, afraid for days, awful. She even threw out the Colgate Dora Toothbrush and Colgate Bubble Mint Toothpaste the dentist gave us in a “goody bag.” Since then, we’ve been trying to make brushing fun and we’ve also been explaining why brushing our teeth is so important.

If you’re wondering, Sam is the complete opposite: he will kick and scream if you try to take his toothbrush away!

To continue our dental hygiene kick, we incorporated toothbrushes and toothpaste into our egg hunt. I filled a few eggs with a jelly bean or mini-dinosaur each and also hid Dora and Diego toothbrushes. We had shopped for everything together, so I couldn’t leave anything out and save it for our real egg hunt next weekend.

Since the kids found the toothpaste I thought I had carefully hidden from them before the hunt, I didn’t include it. I’m still trying to figure out why they decided to re-paint the toilet with it.

The kids had a blast finding the eggs AND the toothbrushes.

After we ate the jellybeans for breakfast, we were able to brush the sugar bugs out of our mouths! I’m hoping by the next dentist visit, Jane will be excited to show off her great brushing skills - and hopefully a set of cavity-free teeth. You can check out Colgate’s fun Dora and Spongebob products here, here, and here, and be sure to look for the Colgate Nickelodeon display at your local Walmart.

What do you do to encourage dental hygiene at your house? Would you incorporate tooth-friendly products in your Easter egg hunt?
